A study of perinatal mortality with obstetrics point of view with etiological factors and preventive approach

Background: Perinatal mortality rate (PNMR) serves as the most sensitive index, directly reflecting prenatal; intrapartum and newborn care. In order to reduce perinatal mortality, it is necessary study various factors influencing deaths.Methods: It was a retrospective done over period of 1 year from January 2021 December 2021. Total 4389 deliveries were included out which 228 deaths occurred. Causes identified studied.Results: Results showed that 17.5 per 1000 live births. Incidence early neonatal death 17.5% total admissions. Majority occurred due preterm, low birth weight. Maternal factor associated with antepartum haemorrhage, eclampsia, obstructed labour, malpresentation, medical problems in pregnancy.Conclusions: The could be prevented strengthening antenatal care screening, educating pregnant women recognize signs complications pregnancy, timely access obstetric care, monitoring labour for fetal distress, proper resuscitation. With coordination neonatologist obstetrician, sizeable reduction can achieved.
